How to attend Video based online interviews

ree

A. Pre‑Interview Preparation

  • Clarify the type of interview: live (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Google Meet)

  • Research company, role, interviewers, required software, and time zones

  • Practice answering common behavioral and technical questions, and have insightful questions ready

B. Technology & Setup

  • Test webcam, mic/headphones, internet connection, platform in advance; do a trial run with a colleague/friend

  • On the day: ensure fully charged devices, closed background apps, and signed‑in platforms at least 30 minutes early

C. Environment & Presentation

  • Choose a quiet, distraction‑free, tidy space with a plain, neutral background

  • Ensure even, front‑facing lighting, preferably natural; no strong light behind you

  • Position camera at eye‑level, capturing shoulders and upper chest; allow room above and on the sides for natural gestures

  • Wear business‑appropriate attire—including lower half, even if seated; avoid busy patterns or distracting accessories

D. Communication & Body Language

  • Sit upright, smile, use open and positive posture; avoid slouching, fidgeting, touching face.

  • Maintain eye contact by looking into the camera, not at your own image or screen.

  • Speak clearly and at a measured pace, pausing briefly after questions to account for delay and avoid talking over the interviewer.

  • Use headphones (wired ones as most wireless causes lag, echo etc...

E. Professionalism & Contingency

  • Arrive (join the call) early—about 30 minutes beforehand to resolve last-minute issues.

  • If technical problems occur, inform the interviewer calmly, request to reconnect or switch mode (e.g. phone) if needed.

  • Keep resume, portfolio, notes, water, and contact details handy but discreet
